Chamberlain's MSN runs specialty tracks well beyond the NP route: Nurse Educator, Nurse Executive, Healthcare Policy and Nursing Informatics. Each ends in a practicum, and the Executive track is a 144-hour practicum with 1:1 mentoring. None of them is a patient-care rotation, so none of them is the search NP students run.

Four tracks, four different supervisors
The NP tracks get most of the attention, but Chamberlain's MSN also runs Nurse Educator, Nurse Executive, Healthcare Policy and Nursing Informatics. Each carries a practicum, and each needs someone whose day job is that specialty. A superb bedside clinician is the wrong supervisor for all four.
Nurse Executive
A 144-hour practicum with 1:1 mentoring. The supervisor needs genuine management authority: a unit or department manager, a director of nursing, a quality or operations lead.
Nurse Educator
Someone whose actual role is education: clinical education, staff development, simulation, or faculty in a nursing programme. Teaching and assessment have to be the work, not an occasional duty.
Healthcare Policy
The narrowest search of the four. Policy, government affairs, regulatory or professional association settings, where policy work genuinely happens rather than gets discussed.
Nursing Informatics
Clinical informatics teams, EHR optimisation, analytics or nursing information systems. Often the easiest to arrange inside a large health system and near impossible outside one.
What Chamberlain's Practicum Commitment does
Chamberlain publishes a Practicum Commitment, under which students secure a practicum placement with a supportive preceptor and the university helps ensure you secure the site or preceptor needed to complete the degree. That is a real support and it is more than many programmes offer.
What it does not do is choose the setting for you or move at your pace. Students come to us for the specific things a commitment cannot deliver: a placement in a particular specialty, in a particular organisation, or on a timeline tighter than the process allows. If the university's route is working for you, use it.
Where the four tracks get stuck
Executive placements are limited by a manager's available time rather than by how many managers exist. Educator placements are limited by how few clinical educators any one organisation employs. Policy is limited by geography, since qualifying settings cluster around capitals and association headquarters. Informatics is limited to organisations large enough to run an informatics function at all.
The workplace route
Most Chamberlain MSN students are working nurses, and completing the practicum inside your own organisation is usually the fastest path. The conditions are consistent across all four tracks: the supervisor should be someone other than your direct manager, their role has to match the specialty, and the organisation has to agree formally rather than by handshake. Where any of those fails, it becomes an external search with a much smaller pool.

Can my direct manager supervise me?
Generally not. Another qualified person in the same organisation is usually acceptable, but confirm with your programme.
How many hours are the other tracks?
The Executive track is published as a 144-hour practicum. For Educator, Healthcare Policy and Informatics, confirm the current figure with Chamberlain. We do not publish hour counts the university has not published itself.
Can I use one placement for two tracks?
No. Each track assesses a distinct specialty, so the supervisor and setting are chosen against different criteria.
What if I am in a small market?
Informatics and policy are the hardest outside a metro area. Establish that early, because the fallback is a longer external search rather than a nearby substitute.
