It also concentrates most of its people, and most of its preceptors, in two metro areas. Here is the ground truth on Las Vegas, Reno, the rural counties, and the paperwork in between.
Start with the good news: Nevada is a full practice state
On the AANP State Practice Environment map, Nevada sits in the full practice column. A licensed Nevada NP evaluates patients, diagnoses, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, and initiates and manages treatment, prescribing included, answerable only to the state's nursing board. Nevada crossed over in 2013, and its clinics reflect that head start.
Why should a practicum student care? Because the preceptor pool looks different here. In Nevada an experienced FNP or PMHNP can precept you inside a practice they own, with no supervising physician anywhere in the chart. NP-led primary care, psychiatric care, and telehealth practices are ordinary parts of the market in Las Vegas and Reno, and every one of them is a potential placement if the provider meets Chamberlain's requirements for your course.
One wrinkle: Nevada requires a period of experience before an NP may prescribe Schedule II controlled substances independently. It does not affect students, but it can shape who anchors a psychiatric rotation; the Nevada State Board of Nursing publishes the current rule.

Northern Nevada runs at a calmer pace. Community clinics, NP-owned practices, and behavioral health sites across Washoe County and the capital take students steadily, with thinner competition than the south.
Rural and frontier Nevada
Elko, Fallon, Winnemucca, Ely, Pahrump, and Mesquite sit in genuinely underserved country. Community health centers there can offer remarkable breadth, though each site hosts few students and may need brand-new paperwork.

Licensure, verification, and the Nevada State Board of Nursing
The Nevada State Board of Nursing regulates the state's RNs, LPNs, CNAs, medication aides, and advanced practice registered nurses. Nevada licenses NPs as APRNs: the board asks for an active Nevada RN license, graduate education in an advanced practice role, and current national certification from an approved certifying body, with applications and renewals handled through its Nevada Nurse Portal.
- Check your preceptor first. The portal's license lookup shows whether a prospective preceptor's Nevada license is active and in good standing. Run it before you put a name into Typhon, not after.
- Physicians have their own boards. MD and DO preceptors are licensed elsewhere in Nevada's system; what matters for you is whether Chamberlain accepts that preceptor type for your specific course.
